Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG)

What is AIG?

Academically or intellectually gifted (AIG) students perform or show the potential to perform at substantially high levels of accomplishment compared to others of their age, experience, or environment. Academically or intellectually gifted students exhibit high-performance capability in intellectual areas, specific academic fields, or in both intellectual areas and specific academic fields. Academically or intellectually gifted students require differentiated educational services beyond those ordinarily provided by the regular educational program. Outstanding abilities are present in students from all cultural groups, economic strata, and all areas of human endeavor. (NCDPI)

CCS AIG Vision

Cherokee County Schools believes that Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) students deserve rigorous, differentiated, high-quality instruction every day. A free, appropriate public education for gifted learners emphasizes growth and talent development for all advanced learners. We believe that the best way we can support the needs of our talented students is to provide all teachers with quality professional development and educational resources to help guide their ability to differentiate and deliver rigorous, high-level instruction that meets the needs of all students. Gifted students excel when they are welcomed, educated, and challenged amongst their peers, and they deserve to learn in a school environment where they are regularly and consistently challenged to excel socially, emotionally, and academically.
